Description
I am starting to train my birds to let me get close to them so that when the season of mating starts and they are all in full mating colors, they let me stay close. So every day now I spend about 30 minutes in the yard about 10 feet from the bird feeder with my 200mm lens sitting on a pillow. I am not motionless; I want them to trust me.
I am starting to achieve my goal after my 3rd day. This finch was a bit more concerned than the rest and did not come to the feeder until it took a good look at me first from a branch behind it. Since the branches there are a ton of clutter to provide protection for the birds against the hawks, rather than clearing the branches thinner, I just covered it up here with textures. The bird is an American Goldfinch, a female--missing the black cap--and is ready for full maturity. Perhaps her first year for mating. She was very beautiful.
